  Paying your Bill

Bills may be paid by mail or at either HPC office. There are also night depository boxes at each office for members to pay their bills when the office is closed.

You have 20 days to pay your bill from the date it is mailed. After 20 days, a penalty is charged. Although a late charge is printed on all accounts, it is not added to the total amount due until the 20 day period has expired.

If a member finds it difficult to pay a bill, arrangements to pay can be made with us to assure that the service will not be disconnected. We're glad to work with our members when given the opportunity. However, if a member makes no contact with us concerning a delinquent bill, we have no alternative but to disconnect the electric service.

Assistance Available
A number of programs are designated each year in Iowa to assist households in paying heating costs during the winter months. Some programs are made available statewide through Iowa's Department of Human Services. Other sources of assistance are your local churches and Community Action Program (CAP) offices.

RE CARE
We also have a customer contribution fund supported by our members to help their neighbors in times of emergency. This is also administered through the CAP agencies.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
This program is administered by local CAP agencies to serve those with a critical need for assistance with their utility bills, primarily those who are senior citizens or are disabled. It is funded by the federal government and administered through the local CAP agencies. Applications for EAP are accepted at local CAP offices.
